Hops

Hops have been grown on this farm for over 100 years. To continue this heritage, for which Kent is well known, we doubled our gardens in 2019 to give us 10 hectares of hop garden, growing Fuggles, North Downs and Challenger varieties.

The growing calendar and labour demands of the hops and vines are compatible, which supported our decision to start growing vines.

Vines

Based on chalky, south facing banks a few years ago we decided to turn one of our lower producing fields into a vineyard.

In 2018 we planted 5 hectares of vines and then another 3 hectares in 2019 and a final 3 hectares in 2024 giving 56,000 vines:

34,000 chardonnay
15,000 pinot noir
7000 pinot meunier
